Are you Close Enough to Glow?

ht The Big Picture.

How to determine if you are in a potential reactor meltdown danger zone:  link.

If a crisis at a nuclear reactor happened in the U.S., could you be living in a danger zone? In a 10-mile radius (Dark Red) , the Nuclear Regulatory Commission says the air could be unsafe to breathe in the event of a major catastrophe. In 50 miles, food and water supplies may be unsafe (Faded Red).

I put the target address as 421 Chapel Hill Drive, Durham, NC 27708 because that is the address that comes up for Duke University:  Because they are "The Bomb."   The nuclear power plant is Shearon Harris and it is 25 miles from Duke University.  The next closest are 120 miles away.

There are scenarios where non-reliance on fossil fuels would be a good thing.  They say to keep your friends close, and your enemies closer.  Well with nuclear power plants,  think of them as a landfills: you want them- but not very close, and really, really not next door.

This is just about as cool as the asteroid strike tool I linked to some time ago:  :  impact effects calculator .
