A Kentucky man shot down a drone with a video camera that was hovering in his back yard. He was arrested. There is an interesting discussion into the legalities of the issue here: Shooting Down Drones. It is well worth the read.
I might add that in a lot of areas it would matter a lot where you are at. In almost every municipality in North Carolina, it is illegal to discharge firearms within town limits. The argument would have to be that the drone "threatened" the home owner, but that is a little hard to argue if it is just hovering. Yves at Naked Capitalism I think was onto one method: "they need a magnetic pulse to fry these buggers."

I'm just as anxious to discharge my firearms at those that threaten me, but I'm wisely waiting for after the Apocalypse. Shooting a drone is, to the powers that be, little different than shooting at the IRS building or polizai station. Don't directly challenge the bastards, it won't end well.
That drone looked armed.....I feared for my life.
James: this was a private drone. The issue here is using a weapon in a manner that doesn't involve hunting, or someone coming through your window/door.
Tewshooz: The ability to back of and go back into your house is too easy. I think spraying it with a supper soaker might work might get it to do somewhere else, and isn't life threatening.
