Zombie book reviews

I have book reviews coming up.  I hadn't really gone out of my way to read zombie books, they were just sort of mixed up with the last batch I was reading except I was a little behind on them.

They will be:

Bill Braddock's Brew: Set at a barely disguised State College, PA - home of the Nittany Lions

Michail Lerma's Z-plan: Blood on the Sand: Set in Iraq

Michael James McFarland's Wormwood: Set in the Central Washington State

Tim Lebbon's Coldbrook: set in Western North Carolina mountains near Tennessee (best I can tell anyhow)

and if I can finish it in time [I did- I didn't realize that the latest mbp have the novella Faith included].

D.J. Molles' The Remaining:  which is actually set in Central North Carolina not too awfully far away from where I live .

I liked some more than others. In some cases a lot more as one of them is pretty close to being one of the best reads of apocalyptic reading that I have come across in a while.

Oddly enough, I noticed that some in this batch had an unusually high amount of realism for a zombie novel.   A lot of otherwise silly disasters start off apocalyptic novels, and then get out of the way so we can have fun dealing with the collapsed state of affairs.  But with zombies being such a continual menace, it is hard to set their lack of realism aside.

  1. Pioneer: Yes, indeed! Although two of the five actually don't have prototypical shoot them in the head zombies.
