New novel by Archer Garrett

I am not a huge zombie apocalypse fan.  But for those who are interested in Archer Garrett's novels, he has come out with a new one, The Blighted.  It is listed at 30,000 words (a long novella), so it should move along fairly well.

I have a few zombie books but they all end the same! :)

I wonder why the whole zombie thing sorta snowballed.

Remember the disaster movies from the '70s? You think they were a reflection of the worries back then?

Thanks Jambaloney: It's even worse than it seems because when I get reading non-fiction I don't usually post directly about it.

GK: My aversion to zombies actually comes more from movies than the novels. The younger me was very much disturbed by them. But I never much liked the slasher variety of horror moviews in any case.

I would probably read some of the zombie books if I wasn't already so far behind in just general dystopia/collapse books in general.

Zombies allow for collaspe scenarios which are somewhat sanitized from the more nuanced sociology of real collapse. You can kill zombies to your hearts contents. They are an unambiguous foe. But you hungry neighbors are a much tougher decision. One you won't likely won't feel good about regardless of what you do.

I actually like zombie movies, but I've yet to encounter a zombie novel with really good writing. Maybe I'm just more entertained by schlock in movies, and I expect something more from books.

This is interesting, I'm a zombie movie fan but i haven't tried reading zombie novel. Thanks for sharing.

Anti: If you try this one and like it let us know.

Kelly: I don't have enough info to know. But I have seen a few times where novels are rated highly, and the reviewer notes that the people are more a danger than the zombies. It reminds me of when I played Dungeons and Dragons years ago. I kept statistics of who was killed by what. For all the strange monsters and undead, people and near people killed by far the most character types.

Thanks for the mention Russell. I know zombie books have a bad reputation for being drivel (though I've never read one), so I tried to write something that was a little more than: see zombies, kill zombies, get bigger guns and kill more zombies. Whether I accomplished that is yet to be seen.

Archer, I know there are some good ones out there, but I can't keep up with them all.

D.J. Molles seems to have done real well for himself as an indie. I haven't read him, but he must be pretty good.

Archer, Yes and I had to look him up as I was not familiar with him. Which says something about the number of books out in that area.
