Going to Blow? Yes!

Iceland is having some interesting activity (ht NC).  I really don’t know how predictable the size of an eruption is.  My guess is that it is somewhat accurate until it is not.  In other words, there is a lot of outliers.

Vatnajökull is experienceing earthquakes, and the eruption has started.

BBC News Europe,  21 May, 2011
Iceland's most active volcano, Grimsvotn, has started erupting, scientists say.
The volcano, which lies under the Vatnajokull glacier in south-east Iceland, last erupted in 2004.
In 2010, plumes of ash from Iceland's Eyjafjallajokull volcano caused weeks of air travel chaos across Europe.
Officials say the latest eruption is unlikely to cause similar problems, although a flight ban has been imposed around the area.
Volcanic eruptions are common in Iceland, which lies along the Mid-Atlantic Ridge that divides the Eurasian and North American continental plates.

volcanos modify weather with gases and dust; last major erruption led to those fantastic cycles of heavy snow and violent weather patterns....

meanwhile the latest erruption will only mean more cooler and wetter weather to come later..

anybody ever studied planetay management 101.. or they just like to be stupid?

At one point, I was under the impression that Volcanic disasters were of the local variety except for the wet weather yo mention;

Well yes for the middling variety of eruption.

But if you have a Mount Tambori you have a year with no summer.

You also have the association with the black plague in the 523 eruption that made sure the Romans (Byzantines) never made a comeback.

We have also had a number of posts about the very limited surplus of "food" in the world. As world population expands, we can afford little other than perfect weather or we have problems.

In the case of this particular volcano, it is of interest because it might shut down air traffic to Europe again.

So I guess I am a little confused about you last sentence. I am not sure what or who you are disagreeing with. I think you are making an assumption about the post that was not intended; confusing the concern over a black swan event with some sort of assumption of certain disaster.

Whatever the case, I think you may want to rethink your tone in writing comments. The use of insulting language on open forums does not reflect well on you.
